What you need to know before going to your EBF vision appointment
As New York reopens, you may be considering making an appointment at one of the CSEA Employee Benefit Fund’s (EBF) vision providers for an eye exam, or to look for new glasses or contact lenses. Many provider locations, including Visionworks stores, have made changes to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to protect patients and staff. Here is what you need to know.
- Appointments are essential. Walk-ins are discouraged and stores may restrict the number of people permitted inside.
- Under the CSEA EBF vision plans, dilation is considered an optional service that is covered as part of your routine exam through a participating provider. If your participating provider is offering an alternate procedure, commonly known as retinal imaging, you can decline that as it is not covered under the plans. If you choose to have the alternate procedure, you are responsible for any out-of-pocket charges as a result.
- Some providers may have limited hours or may still be closed.
- Making an appointment online is best.
- Offices may be operating with a reduced staff which may contribute to longer wait times on the phone and the store. Please be patient.
- At your appointment, you may be asked to wear a mask, and complete a health assessment which may include a temperature check and additional paperwork.
- Providers will be encouraging social distancing and taking extra precautions to clean and sanitize surfaces and equipment.
- Staff may be wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, face shields and gloves.
- Substantial out-of-pocket costs can be avoided by selecting a participating provider in your area at the time of your service. You can search for providers here.
